We would like to hear the views of people of all ages so please ask your household and neighbours to fill in a form.

Midgley Village Survey - You Said...We Did!
There were 68 respondents to the survey by the closing date of 15th December. The survey achieved a response representing about 15% of households based on our paper newsletter distribution to over 400 households in Midgley and environs.
You said that you value the village community room and shop. The survey identified at least 7 new people who are either trained or in process of being approached to volunteer in the shop.
You said that you enjoy the regular events organised by the social group. As a result of the survey, the Social Group has increased in numbers. There are 5 new people on the circulation for social group, and new members have launched a successful new event for the community (beer tasting).
Over 80% rated the overall appearance of the village at 4 or 5 (out of 5). We have established a maintenance squad as a team of 14 people came forward to provide a range of environment/maintenance/handyperson help. This group has already helped out with four projects: street signage cleaning, community room furniture repairs, Christmas tree and lights, post-flood clean up on Towngate.
You said that you enjoyed our saturday breakfasts. We now have a schedule of breakfasts for the next 4 months and 2 new people have been fully trained in kitchen health and safety.
You said that the village website was not a source of information for village events. The legacy website has been retired and archived and a new website has been launched. This is now focused on upcoming events and content updated more regularly consistent with social media.
Alongside the paper newsletter you said that instagram, facebook and whatsapp were also places you heard about village events. Since the survey the number of people on our social media channels has significantly increased: Instagram (308 followers), Facebook Group (477 members) and WhatsApp (68 members). These have increased our ways to communicate our activities.
96% of respondents expressed support for a centenary event for the Midgley recreation ground and were willing to get involved. In 2025, we will go ahead with plans to organise an event.
There were many comments on how we could improve the rating of the village appearance. In 2025, we will consider the suggestions and where possible invest in various improvements.

The Pinfold
Many thanks to Jerome for working on the pinfold. It looks amazing. Also a big shout out to the Gardening group, Sam Barker and Anne H for advice/help/plants & bark. Our pinfold ia quite rare, age unknown but it is thought that it dates to the 18th century. Pinfolds were where stray animals were impounded & owners paid a fine to get them back. Midgley's last pinder ( responsible for upkeep of pinfold & grazing animals on common land ) was John Scott who died in 1869
